Has anyone noticed the trend over the last few years where a number of roads have been upgraded, and usually not before time, where the speed limits have been either lowered, or solid centre lines have been placed ??

A classic example is the newly upgraded Hein Road, where it used to have a 80km/h speed limit, until just before the roadworks started, and now remains a 60km/h speed limit after the road has been widened, as well as now endowed with a solid line down the entire length of the new section of road.

Did they decide to keep it at 60 because of stupid decision of turning it in to a sharper corner, or to deter people from using it as the shortcut to Beenleigh ?

Several years ago the Eastern end of Dairy Creek Road from Buccan Road to Gardiner road had a solid centre line painted on that entire length which is primarily a straight road, although there are sections where the centre line is entirely appropriate for safety reasons.

More recently we have the entirety of Buccan Road turned from a 80Km/h road with no centre line to a 60 speed limit and a centre line all the way down it.

One could easily think it's a plan to keep all the Beenleigh traffic on the Waterford Tamborine Road, right up to Waterford, but that's not right because of the always extending white centre line between Logan Village and Waterford, where for some reason people like to sit anywhere up to 40 km/h below the speed limit. Smiley

So what do others think of this apparent trend on our roads ?

Further to my previous post, I've recently been down Mundoolun Road, and have seen yet another example road marking paranoia.

I'll be the first to agree with anyone that there was a great need to improve the road markings on this road, however this new road marking has gone a long way overboard in certain sections in my opinion.

As I've only travelled a short distance on this road, I can only suspect the rest of the road marking is similar.


The sections just north and south of the East street intersection seems to be extend a whole lot longer than what I believe it should be, with 'straight' sections on the flat as 'safe' as any other road in the shire.

As I've said before, I'm not against white lines, just the excessive use of them that's all.
